Deb Ward with the The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District says the ten-county, regional scrap tire collection will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Arlington, Nebraska Friday from 8-12 noon.
Residents and businesses in Sarpy, Douglas, Washington, Burt, Thurston, Dakota, Dodge, Cuming, Colfax and Stanton Counties are eligible. “Last year we collected and properly disposed or recycled 462 tons of tires, many of which would end up in road ditches, ponds or indefinitely stored,” Ward says.
Tires of all sizes will be accepted but Ward says there is a per-vehicle limit of 100 tires. Rims will not be accepted and she says they can't accept tires from retailers or businesses which charge or collect a fee for tire disposal.
Limited unloading assistance will be available so plan to unload your own tires. Tires collected will be processed into crumb rubber to make park benches, tables, running tracks and rubber mulch.
